Electronic Folk artist Matt Garrod has returned with his latest single April
West Australian indie singer-songwriter Matt Garrod will unveil his second single of 2018 April on Friday 9 November.
Whilst he had no solo work to his name at the beginning of 2018, Perth’s Matthew Garrod is already tipped to become an indie favourite. Coming off the back of his debut single We’re on a Ship, April provides another glimpse of what to expect out of his highly anticipated Canyons EP due out early 2019.
As Garrod’s most pop track to date, April offers the perfect combination of glimmering ambience, synth-pop hooks and those signature lush vocals that have drawn comparisons to Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard as well as the ‘Angus’ half of Angus and Julia Stone.
Tracked and produced at Lamb Chop Records in Bunbury by Gold WAMi Nominee James Newhouse (The Waifs Ironbark), April is a strong follow-up to his debut single We’re on a Ship that demonstrates Garrod’s diverse songwriting and artistic capabilities.
Garrod is no stranger to the indie-pop scene with his band Oak Tree Suite having established itself as a much-loved four-piece in WA and abroad. The band opened for Evermore on their 2014 Hope Tour and received promising reviews and airplay from Triple J off the back of singles Not Far Away and Lo Ammi.
Garrod tested the waters as a solo artist when he quietly released Bad Memory Blaze in 2014. The single made it to the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition that year and was selected as the key track to indie film The Right One.
Having recently crossed the pond, Garrod is taking a short break from live shows while he settles into his new home of London, but be sure to keep an eye out for this exciting new talent in the UK and Australia in 2019.
