BIO

Since he began playing piano as a child, Matt Garrod has held a distinctive drive to write music that challenges conventional songwriting approaches with ambiguous, relatable and sometimes spiritual storytelling.  Matt’s end goal is to write music that provokes thought and discussion into song meanings with zero concern for producing music that simply conforms to trend.

Matt begun his musical career writing and fronting Perth indie pop band Oak Tree Suite, releasing two EP’s and a number of well-received singles including The Same Disease, Not Far Away and Lo Ammi.  Oak Tree Suite were semi-finalists of the J Music Awards in 2013, and his first single as a solo artist, Bad Memory Blaze (2014) was nominated as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition in the same year.

Garrod’s vocals often draw comparisons to the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Henry Jamison whilst his sometimes spiritual, conversational storytelling has been likened to that of Mumford and Sons’ Marcus Mumford.

2018 saw Garrod relocate to London and release the first two singles from his much anticipated ‘Canyons’ EP.
